Plant Dye 101: Harvest Mid-Summer Color with Walnuts
$65.00 USD $0.00 USD
Come to Peace and Plenty Farm for a fun day learning the basics of making plant dye with walnuts.
Besides learning the basics of the plant dye process, the participants can also try some simple shibori (resist dye) techniques.
Depending on what plants are available that day on the farm, there might be other (or more) plant dye baths to add some other hues to our palette.
Every participant will receive one small organic cotton bandana to dye. Yoriko will bring extra dye material prepped to dye for purchase at the workshop
(scarves, socks, bandana etc. Prices range from $3 - $80).
We will serve some light refreshments from the farm.
The workshop will be led by Yoriko Yamamoto, an art educator and a Waldorf Handwork Teacher. She is influenced by the Fibershed initiative whose goal is to reintroduce a sustainable and local textile culture in California. She has been harvesting plants in her neighborhood to create natural dyes and inks to use in her classrooms and in her own work.
Class size is limited to ten people.
